About Me - Low Key Cooking

About Me

Hello, and welcome to Low Key Cooking.

My name is Alex.

I’m a young professional living in San Diego, and like most 20-somethings, I hate cooking.

Ok, let me clarify. I don’t hate cooking–I hate time consuming, expensive cooking. But I do love gourmet food, and I wanted to learn how to do it. Why?

Well, it all started when I wanted to impress a girl on a first date.

After searching frantically online for a “fancy” recipe: I found stuffed bell peppers. Unfortunately, making stuffed bell peppers for the first time seems easy until you realize halfway through that you have no idea what you’re doing. I left out half of the stuffing and burned the peppers to a crisp. Fortunately, I had given myself plenty of time to give it a second try, and somehow managed to produce something edible. My date was impressed by the effort, and I was hooked.

Fast forward 5 years. I’ve found my niche in what I like to call, “Gourmet the Lazy Way.” I define this category as dishes that look like they could be found at a gourmet restaurant, but easy enough for your average Joe to make at home without lighting the house on fire.

Every recipe on this site fits four main requirements:

  • It looks and tastes gourmet. (No ants on a log here.)
  • It’s healthy. (And frequently gluten free or paleo)
  • It costs less than $15, and typically far less.
  • It takes less than 30 minutes to make, start to finish.

Like most people, I don’t have the time or energy to make an extravagant dinner every night. My goal is to share my recipes and tricks with you so that you can impress your friends and family with incredibly low-key, easy recipes they’ll think you spent hours on.

Hey, it’s not cheating. It’s just Gourmet the Lazy Way.
