Are you ever in one of those moods where all you want in life is a nice hearty steak? Well that was me yesterday and it gave me an opportunity to try a new chili-lime sauce that I’ve been tinkering with. I can say with confidence that this chili lime sauce will blow your expectations out of the water and you’ll start using it regularly. I used it on some grilled steak but it would be just as good on chicken, salmon or whatever your favorite source of protein might be.
I also added a fresh mango salsa and I found that it balanced out the steak perfectly. The salsa would also be great on it’s own with some tortilla chips. Now, I decided to grill my steaks but if you don’t have access to a grill then the stove-top will work just fine.

- I found two steaks on sale at Ralph’s for $4 each and I used those to keep the total price under $15. If you have a special preference of your steak then you might end up spending more than $15. The rest of the ingredients for the salsa and the chili-lime sauce can be found at any local grocery store for less than $7.
What You’ll Need:
- 2 steaks of your choice
For the Chili-Lime sauce:
- 4 full limes
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1/4 red chili flake
- 1/2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1 clove garlic – finely minced
For the Mango Salsa:
- 1 mango – diced
- 1/4 cup pineapple chunks (you can buy the can or chop up a fresh pineapple)
- 4 baby sweet pepper -chopped
- 1 tsp chopped fresh green jalepeno (more or less depending on your heat tolerance)
- 1/8 cup chopped green onion
- 1/8 cop chopped cilantro
- 1/2 lime – juice squeezed over top of everything
- dash of red pepper flake
- 1 tbsp pineapple juice (I used the juice from the can of pineapple chunks)
Directions:
If you’re grilling your steaks, start by lighting the grill up and getting it hot. Combine all ingredients for the chili lime sauce in a small mixing bowl making sure the sauce is fully combined (Cut limes in half and squeeze the juice into the mixing bowl. Lay your steaks out on foil or a cutting board and season with salt and pepper. With a spoon, generously drizzle sauce over both sides of the raw steak covering completely and rub in sauce. Throw your steaks on the grill or in a pan on the stove over medium-high heat. Check every couple of minutes and flip when necessary.
While the steaks are cooking, start the salsa by peeling the skin off of the mango and dicing. Combine the mango and the rest of the salsa ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon or your fingers until fully combined then drizzle lime juice and pineapple juice over the top of everything. I also steamed some broccoli while this was happening but feel free to add whatever vegetables you prefer. Once the steaks are cooked to desired liking, remove from heat.
Plating:
Place the steak on your plate first; if you have any extra chili lime sauce you can add it over the cooked steak. Grab a handful/spoonful of your mango salsa place over one end of your steak. Add steamed vegetables on the side and serve. I normally say enjoy here but I don’t think that quite does this one justice so… savor every bite!
